Hourly to Salary Converter

by

Comparing job offers is harder than it looks: one pays $28/hour, another $58,000 salary — which is better? This calculator translates between them so you can compare like with like.

The Conversion

Annual Salary = Hourly Rate × Hours per Week × Weeks Worked per Year

The two numbers that matter most: how many hours you actually work each week (overtime and unpaid extra hours push the effective hourly rate down), and how many weeks per year (52 for a job with paid vacation, fewer for freelance or unpaid leave).

Worked Example

$25/hour, 40 hours per week, 50 weeks per year (allowing two weeks off): annual salary is $50,000 gross, roughly $4,167 per month. The same rate at 52 weeks is $52,000 — the two weeks matter more than most people notice.

Comparing Offers

The annual number is just the start. A $60,000 salary with strong health insurance, 4 weeks of PTO and a 5% retirement match easily beats a $65,000 hourly rate with no benefits. Once you have the gross figures, subtract mental values for missing benefits before choosing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why 50 weeks instead of 52?

Fifty weeks assumes two weeks of unpaid vacation. If you get paid time off or work every week, use 52.

Is this gross or take-home pay?

Gross — before taxes, benefits and deductions. Take-home is typically 70–85% of gross.

How do I compare hourly to salary offers?

Compute the annual figure, then subtract the estimated value of benefits missing from the hourly role.
