This HSA contribution calculator shows your 2026 Health Savings Account limit based on your coverage and age, and how much room you have left to contribute.
2026 HSA Contribution Limits
Limit = Base (by coverage) + $1,000 catch-up if age 55+
For 2026 the IRS limits are $4,400 for self-only high-deductible coverage and $8,750 for family coverage. If you are age 55 or older, you can add a $1,000 catch-up contribution. HSA dollars are triple tax-advantaged: deductible going in, tax-free growth, and tax-free withdrawals for qualified medical expenses.
Worked Example
A 56-year-old with family coverage who has already contributed $3,000 this year has a limit of 8,750 + 1,000 = $9,750, leaving $6,750 they can still contribute.
Good to Know
- You must be enrolled in a qualifying high-deductible health plan (HDHP) to contribute.
- Employer contributions count toward your limit — subtract them from what you can add.
- Enrolling in Medicare ends HSA eligibility.
If both spouses are 55 or older, each $1,000 catch-up must go into that spouse’s own HSA.
